FCCLA District III Convention: By Taylor Green On Monday, October 19,
2009, the junior high and high school FCCLA chapters of Meadows Valley traveled down to the Four Rivers Cultural Center in
Ontario, Oregon, to the district convention. If you don’t know, FCCLA stands for Family, Careers, and Community
Leaders of America.
At this convention, we had a guest speaker who is a former BSU football player, Marty Tadman. He gave up
his whole football career as a NY Jets player to go home to his family. He was drafted for the Jets and a week before
the preseason, he found out that his wife was expecting. He went to the general manager and told him that he was quitting
and going back to Boise, Idaho, to his wife and baby on the way. The GM told him that he had never seen someone give
up football for his family, but he has seen players give up their family for football. He is now a father of a one-year-old
daughter with another baby on the way.
We then broke up into seven groups, with kids from all the schools to do different group activities.
In the groups we played little games and watched some demonstrations. The group sessions were: 1. Student Body 2.
Public speaking 3. Leadership 4. Nutrition Break 5. First Aid 6. Stop the Violence (bullying),
and 7. Families First.
