6th Grade Science, Math, and Social Studies

Science

Tests (40%)

At the end of a unit of study there will be a test covering that unit.
Some information from previous units may be tested also. If you know you will be gone, you may take the test in advance, or will make up the test on your own time.

Quizzes (20%)

Project (10-20%)

Percentage will change, depending on number of projects per quarter.

Assignments  (20-30%)
May be worth any number of points based on time, and difficulty.  Note:  All assignments are due at a set time.  If they are late, 10 percent of your grade will be deducted for each day late.  After five days, no credit will be given.

Science Journal

Students were given a science journal for their use during the year.  Notes and drawings will be kept in the journal, and students should bring it to class with them each day.  If they forget it, they will record notes on another piece of paper, and then transfer the notes into their journal.  Science Journals will be turned in the last week of school, and will count as their Semester 2 Final.

In Addition:

Make-Up Policy:
If students know they are going to be absent they are encouraged to get their assignments in advance and complete them before they leave or have it done when they return.  This helps to keep students up to date.  For excused absences, students are allowed three school days for each day missed.  For unexcused absences, assignments will not be accepted.

Study Lunch:
If a student receives less than 70% on any assignment, study lunch will be assigned in order to make corrections to receive a better grade.

Correction Policy:
Students will be given the opportunity to correct their own papers for additional credit on most assignments.  All corrections are due on Fridays.  Assignments due on Fridays will count for the next week's corrections.

Extra Credit:
As a rule, extra credit will not be given on an individual basis.  Often, especially in Math, extra credit will be given on assignments, available for all students to complete.  Extra Credit assignments may also be given to the entire class.
